Every year we look forward to making our own advent calendars. I grew up in Germany where my mom always bought the ones with chocolate in each window, but I find our homemade ones even more special.
After drawing a Christmas picture and adding 25 boxes placed randomly, they traced the boxes with tracing paper. John used his x-acto knife to cut each box on three sides to create little windows, then they drew holiday pictures in each box on the tracing paper and I helped them glue the paper onto the back of the calendar. Each morning when they open a window, they get so tickled to see the image behind it. They don't even miss the candy. imagine that.
